Welcome to the health Office at ECS. My name is Joan Thiesen. I grew up in the Cromwell School system and I am very excited to be working with your families as the School Nurse. Jamie Dodge will be working with me on a daily basis and will float to the other schools as needed.
Our primary goal is to ensure a safe, healthy and productive learning environment for all students.
Our office is committed to providing essential health services to our students.
This include:
- Providing immediate care for injuries and illnesses.
- Ensuring prescribed medications are administered with proper documentation. ***
*** Medications guidelines: If your child requires medication while at school, please contact us to discuss. You will need to provide proper medical paperwork. An adult must bring medications into school. They cannot be sent in the backpack. They must be in their original pharmacy-labeled container. A link to the Medication Authorization form can be found to the left.
- Health Screens: Hearing and vision screenings are done in Kindergarten and 1st Grade. Color Vision testing is done in 1st grade as mandated by the State of Connecticut.
- Flu immunizations are mandatory in Preschool per the State of Connecticut.
- Chronic Conditions: Individualized Health Plans implemented and followed through collaboration with parents/students/healthcare providers.
We aim to ensure that all students can attend school every day and be happy and healthy.
We will call home for the following:
- The student needs to be picked up from school for injury or illness (i.e. fevers of 100° or higher; vomiting, diarrhea, etc.)
- Further communication is needed regarding student health visit or injury with symptoms has occurred.
Please note that the above criteria are made with the Registered Nurse assessment, observation and judgement. If a parent would like calls for any nurse visit or for a specific reason, they must communicate that directly to our office. We will accommodate when possible.
If you take your child to the physician due to illness or injury, please obtain a note from the physician with any restrictions.
